Supports engineering activities such as design, test, verification, modification, fabrication, and assembly of prototype electro-mechanical systems, prototype design circuitry or specialized test equipment.  Works from schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, layouts or defined plans to perform testing, verification and troubleshooting functions.  Performs operational test and fault isolation on systems and equipment.  Assists in determining methods or actions to remedy malfunctions.  Assists in the design, construction, test and verification of test equipment.  Uses manufacturing, test, development or diagnostic equipment, including, but not limited to test programs, oscilloscopes, signal generators and specialized test apparatus.

The advanced engineering technician is a skilled specialist who completes tasks in resourceful and effective ways.  The tasks may include:

• Leads, coordinates, performs, and follows through testing and troubleshooting of engineering projects with complete resolution from system integration and assembly to parts repair and test verification. Assists in meeting project deadlines.
• Coordinates the scheduling, assignment, and manloading of engineering projects among the department technicians under the supervision of the department manager.
• Assists the department supervisor/manager and is viewed as an informal team leader in the supervision and training of other engineering technicians.
• Advises supervisor of departmental inefficiencies and offers suggestions to ensure proper utilization of support groups. Assigned projects require considerable judgment and initiative. Understands implications of work and  makes recommendations for solutions.
• Maintains a neat and orderly project area as well as ensuring an efficiently run lab area. Ensures that repairs to departmental and production test equipment are completed in an expeditious manner.
• Assists in the coordination of mechanical, electrical and software design changes with appropriate engineering groups.
• Provides technical assistance to engineering and operations staff in the development, repair or maintenance of Analogic products.
• Performs other duties as assigned such as testing software or installing prototype subassemblies on product systems.
• May be called upon to assist or install units or upgrades and provide preventive and corrective maintenance on company products on site or in the field.

Associates degree or equivalent and at least ten years of experience in related complex electronics systems.  The advanced engineering technician requires very limited direction and provides a very high level of problem solving and productivity.
