Overview

This newly-created position provides an excellent opportunity to play a foundational role in the development and expansion of a nascent Data Warehouse currently consisting of MRP data.  Initial responsibility as the point person for analysis, reporting, and visualization of operations data.  Future responsibilities for owning and nurturing all aspects of the Operations data analytics for the Peabody manufacturing location and serving as a corporate resource for other world-wide manufacturing locations.  Scope includes chairing cross-functional internal customer groups, documenting and prioritizing requirements, and creating road maps with supporting project plans.  Internal customers are operations managers, business owners, financial analysts, and quality engineers.  Reports to the Managing Director of Global Planning.

Responsibilities

  • Subject matter expert for all aspects of Data Analytics including:
    • Providing routine reporting on Operations data.
    • Writing SQL queries to find answers to complex business questions.
    • Analyzing business data to identify correlations and discover patterns.
    • Identifying data quality issues and biases in data acquisition.
    • Implementing new metrics for the business.
    • Map and trace the data from system to system for solving a given business problem.
    • Teaming with the IT organization to link new data sources.
    • Designing and publishing reports to support process understanding/improvement and fact-based business decisions.
    • Applying statistical analysis.

 

  • Advocate for Operations requirements in Data Warehouse.
    • Define requirements for maintenance, improvements, and new feature development/integration for data warehouse to support Operations data needs.
    • Perform comprehensive review and process improvement to align current state with Best Practices considering available resources.
    • Participate in the integration of new data sources (e.g., MES, Agile PLM) as required to support evolving Operations business needs.
    • Create specifications for the expansion of Data Warehouse capabilities as required to support Operations.
    • Develop and maintain roadmaps and project plans.

    • Data Warehousing / Data Modeling
      • SQL (MS SQL Server preferred)
      • SSAS (a plus)
    • Data Analysis
      • DAX
      • R Programming (a plus)
      • Python (a plus)
      • Basic knowledge of Statistics
    • Data Presentation / Visualization
      • Power BI
      • Excel Power Query/Pivot
    • Work well on cross-functional team including operations, quality, and finance/accounting business users along with SAP, ServiceMax, and Hyperion IT support personnel.

Qualifications

Formal Education & Certification

  • Four-year college diploma or university degree
  • Degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Statistics, or equivalent work experience.

 

Knowledge & Experience

  • Advanced SQL language skills
  • Strong analytical skills required
  • Experience with data presentation (Power BI preferred)
  • Previous Data Warehouse experience (a plus)

Work Conditions

  • Occasional evening and weekend work to meet deadlines.
  • Infrequent International travel (primarily Montreal and China) may be required.
