The Principal Imaging and Detection Engineer position is responsible for the design and development of image reconstruction and threat detection algorithms and software used in Aviation Security related markets. Requires knowledge of physics and/or engineering principles and concepts, as well as the ability to implement and integrate designs into commercial products. The candidate should have strong problem-solving skills, the ability to learn new technology quickly and adjust to a dynamic work environment.  Experience developing signal, image and data processing algorithms in C/C++, Matlab, CUDA and Python.  Knowledge of inverse problems, machine learning, deep learning and open source machine learning platforms such as TensorFlow.


  • Develops online implementations of algorithms for image reconstruction. Optimizes algorithms for hardware implementation.
  • Designs algorithmic systems for the detection of explosive, prohibited items and other threats.
  • Develops methodologies and tools required to develop algorithms.
  • Invents original and creative approaches to design tasks.
  • Works with lead engineers and team members to define project scope and goals.
  • Manages projects of medium scope with high commercial value
  • Mentors and supervises the efforts of physicists, engineers and technicians assigned to projects.
  • Performs consistently in meeting project performance criteria, schedules, deadlines and budgetary constraints, displays a continually increasing breadth of knowledge.
  • Communicates complex concepts in written and verbal form. Creates technical reports, publications, specifications, product designs test plans, and release notes.  Plans and conducts research, design and development for all assignments.                 
  • Communicates effectively with team members and other internal/external stakeholders.



  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline with 15 years or more years of related experience. Master’s degree in scientific discipline with 12 years of relevant work experience or doctoral degree in relevant scientific discipline with 3 or more years of related experience.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to interface with other engineers, team members, customers and other stakeholders.




  • Supervise the technical work of others and may lead project teams. Makes technical decisions in areas of responsibility. 
  • Management roles may be available for exceptional candidates with relevant experience.



  • Ability to obtain a US Security Clearance


  • The position is based at Analogic’s headquarters in Peabody, MA.
