Designs and analyzes mechanical systems, as well as electro-mechanical equipment and packaging. Conducts feasibility studies and testing on new and modified designs. Works with support personnel in the preparation of detailed design, design testing and prototype fabrication. Provides design information to drafting for packaging documentation.
Supports the technical lead of multiple projects which may include new product and technology development, product improvements, cost reductions, and application specific customization. Interfaces closely with manufacturing and quality teams to ensure the smooth transition of new products from development to production. Monitors and evaluates engineering methods and tools to ensure the sound application of scientific and engineering principles.
Individuals may be required to sit/stand in one place for long periods of time. They might be required to lift and move related equipment up to 50 pounds from time to time. This may include bending or kneeling briefly. Required to use PC/laptop/mouse for significant time virtually every day. Works in an office and lab environment with visits to the manufacturing floor to observe issues that may arise. Work in labs and manufacturing requires appropriate safety and ESD protections. Work in an x-ray environment requires x-ray safety training as well as a dosimeter badge.
Makes technical decisions in areas of responsibility. Supervises more junior engineers technically.
Receives general supervision with respect to priorities, schedule, and company goals.
Primarily office, with regular lab work involving electro-mechanical rotating equipment. Occasional work with aviation security threats
