  • Overview

    Under minimal supervision, inspects, measures, verifies, and performs troubleshooting on complex custom parts, purchased parts, sub-assemblies or systems to assure adherence to specifications.

    Responsibilities

    • documents inspection results and tags items for acceptance or rejection
    • typically performs feature level inspection on complex parts/components
    • performs daily qualification on select tools
    • obtains prints, schematics and models from Agile
    • accepts passing material in SAP
    • creates notifications in SAP for discrepant material
    • may attend MRB and interface with purchasing, engineering and suppliers
    • operates typical tools such as calipers, thread gages, micrometers, height gages and pin gages
    • may operate and/or program complex test/inspection equipment such as Coordinate Measurement Machines, Laser Trackers, Vision Measurement Systems, Profilometers and Spectrophotometers
    • may perform sorting, tagging or labeling of parts
    • maintains a neat, clean and orderly work station and adjacent areas
    • follows quality and safety standards and regulations
    • may assist with training of other personnel

    Qualifications

    SKILL AND EXPERIENCE

    • proficiency in metrology using various standard tools as outlined above
    • familiarity with the functions of digital multi-meter (DMM), inductance meters and Hi-Pot testers
    • must fully understand complex geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) including but not limited to, flatness, eccentricity, concentricity, cylindricity, straightness, perpendicularity, parallelism, runout, angularity and profile of a surface
    • proficient in reading and interpreting prints/drawings
    • thorough understanding and proficiency in Microsoft Office as well as Agile, SAP and other applications as necessary
    • 8 years experience or 5 years with related associates degree or 2 years with related bachelors degree
    • Certification and extensive experience programming Brown & Sharpe Bridge Coordinate Measuring Machines preferred

     

    REQUIRES PROFICIENCY IN THE FOLLOWING SKILLS:

    1. ability to effectively inspect parts based on prints and models
    2. ability to analyze and apply judgment to quickly and effectively perform complex data analysis and reporting
    3. ability to assist or train other personnel in theory of GD&T
    4. proficiency with operation and programming of complex test and inspection equipment such as Coordinate Measurement Machines, Laser Trackers, Vision Measurement Systems, Profilometers and Spectrophotometers
    5. ability to work with engineering to evaluate design issues, to work across multiple product lines, and to evaluate returned (RMA) units in order to establish criteria needed to bring units to acceptable status or recommend scrap.
