Writes technical manuals, instructions, and articles for the installation, maintenance, and utilization of complex equipment and instrumentation and/or computer software. Requires skills in both writing and understanding the technical aspects of the equipment and its applications. Assists in planning layouts, illustrations and reproductions for finished publications.
Researches, plans, and writes technical instructions, articles and/or manuals for internal documentation, customer reference, or publications. Analyzes technical literature available, writes descriptive copy, and verifies documentation with related departments.
Understands the technical aspects of the equipment or computer software and its applications. Communicates with engineers to define the target audience to establish the proper content for each document. Assists in planning layouts, illustrations, and reproductions for finished publications. May coordinate the production and distribution of material.
Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
BS in English, Journalism, or a technical discipline, or equivalent. Two or more years of experience writing documentation for hardware/software products or equivalent. Must have good oral and written communication skills. Must have knowledge of desk-top publishing and basic knowledge of publishing process from camera ready artwork to finished product.
