  • Overview

Copley Controls, a business unit of Analogic Corporation, is a worldwide leader in high performance motion solutions. In end applications ranging from semiconductor manufacturing tools to laboratory automation machinery to satellite tracking, Copley drives deliver world class performance. Our motion control group is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our team to focus on custom product designs. Copley motor drives are the most innovative in the industry and employ a wide variety of technologies including high speed networking, digital signal processing with FPGA’s, precision analog signal conditioning and high efficiency power conversion.

The ideal candidate is an experienced, hands-on engineer with a strong interest in leveraging and enhancing Copley technology to provide custom hardware solutions to key customers. The level of customization will range from making a handful of component changes on a standard Copley product all the way to “from scratch” designs to meet customer specifications.

    Responsibilities

    • Work closely with Copley’s application engineering and Sales teams to specify and design customized motor drive solutions to meet customer needs.
    • Create Bills of Material, schematics, drawings and related documentation to fully document Production-ready custom designs
    • Design PCB-level mixed analog/digital, interface and power electronic circuits as needed to meet custom product specification and cost requirements
    • Perform engineering analyses and write test plans, specifications, test reports and engineering change orders. Provide technical expertise in support of the production of customer-oriented documents like datasheets, user guides and application notes.
    • Help to plan and direct custom product performance, compliance and reliability testing

    Qualifications

    • A BS in Electrical Engineering or related field.
    • 5+ years of direct, PCB-level, design experience with μC/FPGA based systems containing mixed signal, interface and power conversion circuitry
    • Experience with the new product development process from concept through to volume (1000+ units/year) production
    • Ability to work both independently and as part of a product development team
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to lend technical expertise to discussions with customers
    • Eager to work with other Copley engineers to develop a deep technical understanding of the details and intricacies of Copley motor drive hardware
    • Strong familiarity with and ability to use PCB design tools (Orcad Capture, PADS or Allegro)
    • Working knowledge of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) concepts (revision control, change orders etc.) and software such as Agile
    • Familiarity with EMC, Electrical Safety and Functional Safety standards and requirements

Copley Controls is located in Canton, Massachusetts, just 3 miles from routes 93 and 95 and only 20 miles south of Boston’s city center. Our Motion team has a vibrant, entrepreneurial feel, but we enjoy the many benefits of being part of Analogic, a strong and well-established technology company.
