  • Overview

    The Principal Imaging Engineer position is responsible for the design and development of image reconstruction and explosive detection algorithms and software used in Aviation Security related markets. Requires knowledge of physics and/or engineering principles and concepts, as well as the ability to implement and integrate designs into commercial products. The candidate should have strong problem-solving skills, the ability to learn new technology quickly and adjust to a dynamic work environment.

    Responsibilities

    • Designs and analyzes detection systems for aviation and other threat detection applications.
    • Develops online implementations of algorithms for image reconstruction, analysis and classification. Optimizes algorithms for hardware implementation.
    • Develops methodologies and tools required to develop algorithms.
    • Invents original and creative approaches to design tasks.
    • Works with lead engineers and team members to define project scope and goals.
    • Manages projects of medium scope with high commercial value
    • Communicates complex concepts in written and verbal form. Creates technical reports, publications, specifications, product designs test plans, and release notes.  Plans and conducts research, design and development for all assignments. 
    • Supervises the efforts of physicists, engineers and technicians assigned to projects.
    • Performs other duties as required.

    Qualifications

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline with 15 years or more years of related experience. Master’s degree in scientific discipline with 10 years of relevant work experience or doctoral degree in relevant scientific discipline with 3 or more years of related experience.
    • Experience developing signal and data processing algorithms in C/C++, Matlab and CUDA.
    • Knowledge of inverse problems, data classification, machine learning, deep learning and AI.
    • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to interface with other engineers and team members
    • Ability to obtain a US Security Clearance

     

    LOCATION:

    • The position is based at Analogic’s headquarters in Peabody, MA.

    GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:

    Individuals may be required to sit/stand in one place for long periods of time. They might be required to lift and move related equipment up to 50 pounds from time to time. This may include bending or kneeling briefly. Required to use PC/laptop/mouse for significant time virtually every day. Works in an office and lab environment with visits to the manufacturing floor to observe issues that may arise. Work in labs and manufacturing requires appropriate safety and ESD protections.  Work in an x-ray environment requires x-ray safety training as well as a dosimeter badge.

    Primarily office, with regular lab work involving electro-mechanical rotating equipment.   Occasional work in an aviation security or clinical environment.

    Office, laboratory, manufacturing and customer sites.
