  • Overview

    SUMMARY:

    Purchases commodity items within established procedures while considering quality, cost, reliability of source, and urgency of need. Assignments are varied and require the exercise of judgement and ingenuity and a good working knowledge of materials purchased and sources of supply.

    Responsibilities

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Issues request for quotations, proposals or bids.
    • Establishes and negotiates costs and lead times with suppliers.
    • Determines material requirements from engineering and production schedules and maintains inventory at planned levels. Sets and manages safety stock levels. Expedites orders as needed.
    • Seeks and qualifies new sources. Develops relationships with vendors and investigates sources of materials, equipment and supplies. Evaluates vendor reliability, develops new supply sources where any suppliers are inadequate. Provides forecast to critical suppliers.
    • Monitors cost, schedule and scope of assigned suppliers to assure best quality at best value.
    • Follows Limits of Authority matrix accordingly.
    • Receives requisitions, and checks for quantity, specifications and delivery requirements. Processes purchase order accordingly.
    • Purchases commodity items. Shares commodity knowledge with internal customers. Manages assigned inventory; including consumable materials, supplies, distributor items.
    • Collaborates with Process Engineering, Development Engineering, and Quality.
      Provides real-time updates to internal customers.
    • Assist Accounting with invoice issues as needed.
    • Perform other duties as required.



     

    Qualifications

    KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

    • Purchasing experience of zero to two years.
    • Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Ability to drive to meet goals with limited supervision.
    • Willingness to handle both complex and simple purchases.
    • Efficient problem-solving skills.
    • Highly organized and effective management of both time and resources.
    • Ability to balance strategic goals with tactical activities.
    • Comfortable with technical discussions.
    • Experience with MRP/ERP systems preferred. Willingness to become an expert user of Visual Manufacturing; upon completion of training will navigate effectively through Purchasing, Planning, and Accounting modules.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
