    BK Medical will continue to produce high-quality systems and unique transducer designs which address the specialized needs and clinical challenges of physicians worldwide!

     

    This position will report to the Vice-President of R&D in Copenhagen, Denmark and will be responsible for leading a team of Acoustic and Material Science Engineers, at the State College facility, in the development of leading edge transducer technology for BK Medical Corporation. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving transducer innovation and future technology efforts through the technology roadmap process, as well as a design for manufacturing mindset within the R&D organization. They must collaborate with cross-functional sites/ teams to drive future technology development, NPI, and continuous improvement efforts and will be required to provide direction to other R&D functions that are co-located in State College.

    Responsibilities

    • Lead and develop a team of 6-10 engineers and technicians in developing transducers in support of the BK Medical technology roadmap. Drive short term tactical efforts, while at the same time creating and driving the strategy for creating leading edge technologies and processes for the future. Establish and maintain close relations to the Advanced Development (AD) team in Denmark (Acoustics, Image Quality, Algorithms) and ensure that activities are in alignment with the long term strategic vision of BK Medical.
    • Empower and challenge the team by creating an environment that fosters innovation and results in leading edge designs, products, and processes. Update internal design and fabrication processes and methods with an eye towards better utilization of technology and automation to enhance performance, yield, manufacturability, and IP creation. Utilize external consultants and resources to augment technology development.
    • Build a high performing team that is capable of meeting/exceeding business goals and objective. Assess current organizational capability to understand gaps and then devise a plan to close those gaps through hiring, training, and coach/mentoring. Develop and nurture core competencies within the Acoustics and Material Science disciplines to develop world class technology. Provide medium and long range career development plans that provide new opportunities, challenges, and growth.
    • Provide clarity and clear organizational direction regarding current projects and the technology roadmap. Complete projects on time and within budget, while driving improvements in cost, quality and performance. This requires a focus on resource and project management, planning, and reporting. Closely monitor activities to allow early intervention on problems and communicate to key stakeholder.
    • Drive improvements and change both internal to the R&D function and externally to the larger BK Medical team. Collaborate with cross-functional teams and leaders to improve organizational processes and systems.
    • Establish key metrics, timelines and milestones to track and measure performance against schedules and goals.  
    • Drive organizational discipline and ensure compliance to BK Medical QA, RA, and HR policies.
    • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required to fulfill job function or as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • Minimum of a BS degree (MS preferred) or equivalent in Engineering or Science; preferably Material Science (Polymers or Ceramics) or Acoustics, plus 10 or more years of related experience.
    • Experience with leading technical staff in a matrixed organization.
    • Thorough understanding of the scientific method applied to engineering development, as well as a thorough grasp of engineering statistics. Ability to communicate technical problems, processes and solutions.
    • Experience in the development and management of technically complex problems.
    • Clear understanding of Design for Manufacturing principles.
    • Strong leadership skills. Leads by example.
    • Strong team and employee development/mentoring skills.
    • Candidates for this position must be authorized to work in the United States.  No Visa sponsorship will be provided for this position.

     Travel Requirements:
